Smartphones have a keyboard that users use to type. Using this keyboard causes every word to be stored in a cache, which will be saved in your device history and will appear as predictive text the next time you type a similar phrase.

This may help you type fast, but sometimes they can be more bothersome than helpful. It may show your email when someone else is using your keyboard or a word that you don't want someone else to see on your keyboard. Below, you will find how you can clear this cache so that it isn't suggested on your keyboard.

Clearing Android Keyboard Data

Open your Android settings. Find the icon with a gear in the middle of it. This is usually on the home screen. If you can't find it, you can swipe up on an empty part of your screen to reveal a search bar that you can use to search your phone for it.

Go to the app section

2. After you launch the Settings menu, you will need to scroll until you see the Apps section. You can expect to see it near the top of the menu and it might say "Applications" on some devices. Tap it when you find it.

3. In the Application section, you will need to tap the three vertical dots that appear in the right corner of the app list. On some devices, you may see an "Application Manager" so tap that instead of the three vertical dots.

4. In the menu that appears now, you will need to tap "Show system apps" and this will show all the apps on your phone and not just the ones that you installed. On some devices, you may need to scroll down to the All tab instead of doing this step.

5. Scroll through the apps and find your keyboard. It should say "Android Keyboard" on the app that you tap.

6. After tapping the app, a new menu will appear. Click on Storage in that menu.

7. In the Storage menu, you will have to click Clear Data. A confirmation window will appear, and you will have to confirm that you want to delete the data in the app.

Clearing Samsung Keyboard Data

1. Open your Samsung settings. Find the icon with a gear in the middle of it. This is usually on the home screen. If you can't find it, you can swipe up on an empty part of your screen to reveal a search bar that you can use to search your phone for it.

Language and Input

2. Scroll through the settings until you see Language and Input. Tap on it. for some Samsung devices, you may have to go to General Management before you are able to find the Language and Input option.

3. Once you tap Language and Input, you will have to tap "On Screen Keyboards to view a list of all the keyboards on your device. Tap the Samsung Keyboard option when you see it. It should be under the "Keyboards and input methods" section.

Predictive text

4. Look at the predictive text option. If the switch is off and gray, then there is no history to delete. If the switch is on then continue through the steps.

5. Scroll down the menu and Tap Clear personal data or Reset Settings depending on the device. It should be near the bottom of the menu.

6. Confirm that you want to delete the data.

Clearing Gboard Data

3. Once you tap Language and Input, you will have to scroll through the keyboards in the next menu that appear.

4. Tap on Virtual Keyboard. This is where the option for Gboard will be. Only some devices have this option. If you don't see it, skip to the next step.

5. Tap Gboard, which should be located at the top of your screen.

6. A menu will appear. Tap Dictionary in that menu.

7. A new menu will open. Tap Delete Learned Words.

8. Confirm that you want to delete them.
